Teaching Philosophy

Music Education is a necessity in the society in which we live. As we look to the future I feel that people lose sight of what makes us human. When we are young, we are innocent and are naturally compelled to learn. Every skill and concept (no matter how small) is a learning opportunity. As a result, we then seek new avenues of discovery and marvel at the beauty of existence.  Music plays a huge role in this self discovery as children experiment with new rhythms, unique sounds and instruments.  Sadly, as we grow older, the beauty begins to fade and the stress of life begins to take precedence. The search for knowledge is replaced with the search for a career that will, in turn, provide monetary compensation.  The concept of learning new skills is long forgotten and instead of striving to attain our potential as human beings, we limit ourselves. For this reason I strongly believe that music education should begin in the early years of a child’s education.  When they are young, they have fewer inhibitions and are more ready to experiment with various musical concepts such as improvisation.  If music is introduced at a young age, then the child is less likely to stray away from it as they grow older because of the passion they have developed for it.

A key element in my philosophy as a young music educator is to recognize that each child is a unique human being that needs a secure, caring, and inspiring environment. This is required in order for that child to grow emotionally, intellectually, and socially. The early years in a child’s life are the most significant in their education. As such, I strive to impart my love for music to every child that I am fortunate enough to teach. My goal is to be a guide by providing hands-on activities that allow for individual discoveries and successes. By making use of varied teaching methods that include visual, tactile, and auditory materials, a fun and imaginative environment is created. Through singing, instruments, and percussion activities it is my intention to introduce children to the extensive world of music, and accommodate their particular stages of development through versatility and adaptation. One of my hopes is to instill my passion for music in my students and encourage every child to enjoy and be happy with music.

Sincerely,

Daniela Alongi
